Inspired by the events At the Battle of Puebla, Mexico, on May 5 1862.
The Cathedral of Puebla was the backdrop for Mexico defending themselves from French forces following a dispute in debt and overreach of French policy.
The Cathedral as a Motif of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception, a depiction of the Virgin Mary who was see to have been conceived without sin.*
Marigolds are deeply spiritually vital to most Mexican celebrations and are present on Ofrindas, through out the celebrations of Dia de los Muertos, motifs through local artwork, and any aspect one could use a flower or light.
The paper in the background, Papel Picado, is traditionally hand cut by locals on a tissue like paper to highlight important symbols for any occasion. Religious, milestones, achievements, and in remembrance, these Mexican folk banners are displayed.
